Fall Orientation tradition continues this year with the women’s rugby team taking on the Western Mustangs
By Dan Ackerman University of Waterloo AthleticsThe annual Black and Gold Day has been a trademark event for first-year University of Waterloo students since the late 1990’s. The tradition continues at Fall Orientation 2015 with a varsity game featuring our own Waterloo Warriors.
The women’s rugby team will be the feature of this year’s Black and Gold Day when the Warriors take on rivals, Western Mustangs,on Saturday, September 12 at 1 pm at Warrior Field.
Black and Gold Day will expose Waterloo students to the excitement of a live varsity with one of our most successful varsity programs centre stage. The women’s rugby program has consistently advanced to the playoffs in the last decade, and under new head coach Andy Ireland the team will once again be hungry for a deep run into the playoffs. After a heartbreaking loss to the Mustangs last season in the opening round of the playoffs, Waterloo will be looking for revenge when they play in front of 2,000+ first-year students on Saturday.
In addition to the game, the students will have the opportunity to mingle and participate in the pre-game carnival as well as take in the popular Orientation leader half-time dance.
