Intact donation launches Waterloo centre to make Canadian communities more resilient to climate change
Media are invited to attend the launch of a new centre that will focus on research and building awareness nationwide for innovative adaptation solutions to increased extreme weather facing Canadian homeowners, communities, industries and governments
Supported by a donation from Intact Financial Corporation, the Intact Centre on Climate Adaptation (ICCA) at the University of Waterloo will bring together university researchers, consultants, industry specialists and NGOs to apply research-based solutions and technologies most needed to manage the threat of intense precipitation, damaging winds and a host of other extreme weather events.

“Climate change is here and now, with extremes in weather that are costing Canada greatly, both financially and socially. The ICCA is focusing on deploying a national action plan on adaptation that will help to de-risk the country from extreme weather,” said Blair Feltmate, a professor from the University of Waterloo’s Faculty of Environment and head of the Intact Centre on Climate Adaptation. “This initiative will complement discussions by the federal and provincial governments that focus on limiting greenhouse gas emissions.”
