Supported by a donation from Intact Financial Corporation, the Intact Centre on Climate Adaptation (ICCA) at the University of Waterloo will bring together university researchers, consultants, industry specialists and NGOs to apply research-based solutions and technologies most needed to manage the threat of intense precipitation, damaging winds and a host of other extreme weather events.

Date: Monday, November 30, 2015
Time: 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Location: Art Gallery of Ontario, Baillie Court. 317 Dundas Street West, Toronto, M5T 1G4

“Climate change is here and now, with extremes in weather that are costing Canada greatly, both financially and socially. The ICCA is focusing on deploying a national action plan on adaptation that will help to de-risk the country from extreme weather,” said Blair Feltmate, a professor from the University of Waterloo’s Faculty of Environment and head of the Intact Centre on Climate Adaptation. “This initiative will complement discussions by the federal and provincial governments that focus on limiting greenhouse gas emissions.”

Speakers at the event include:

  • Glenn Thibeault, MPP for Sudbury, Parliamentary Assistant to Minister of the Environment and Climate Change
  • George Dixon, Vice-President, University Research, University of Waterloo
  • Charles Brindamour, Chief Executive Officer of Intact Financial Corporation
