3MT is a university-wide competition for research-based master’s thesis and doctoral students. The competitors have three minutes and one static slide to convey the breadth and significance of their research to a non-specialist audience.
The event is open to the public and there is an opportunity for audience members to vote for their favourite contestant. The winner will advance to the provincial competition held at Western University later this month.
“It is critical for researchers and academics to articulate their work in clear and concise ways so that the public may understand how their important work applies to our world, our communities and our lives,” said Jim Frank, associate provost, graduate studies at Waterloo. “This competition is an opportunity for these students to share their knowledge and hone these important communication skills.”
