The University of Waterloo will draw talented engineering students from across the province this week for the Ontario Engineering Competition to showcase their engineering skills and communication proficiency.

Waterloo's Faculty of Engineering will welcome about 300 competitors from 16 Ontario universities and colleges as well as judges, sponsors and guests for the annual competition from January 29 to 31.

"We’re thrilled to be hosting the 37th annual Ontario Engineering Competition that brings together some of the most inventive engineering students from across the province to compete in design and communication challenges,” said Janna Henzl, chair of OEC 2016 and a Waterloo chemical engineering student.  "Judges provide valuable feedback for the competitors, preparing the winners for success when they move on to compete at the national level.”

The areas of competition will include junior design, senior design, engineering communication, programming, engineering consulting, parliamentary debate and innovative design. Over $33,000 will be awarded in prizes. Winners qualify for the Canadian Engineering Competition to be held at McGill University from March 3 to 6.
