Looking back at 2024
A message from the President and Vice-Chancellor
A message from the President and Vice-Chancellor
By Vivek Goel President and Vice-ChancellorThe end of the year is a time to reflect on where we’ve been and where we are going.
Through the ups and downs of this past year, our community consistently demonstrated its resiliency. 2024 has reminded us of the importance of listening to one another, sharing ideas and collaborating.
It has also been full of many achievements.
This year, I asked some of my colleagues to share their highlights from 2024.
I’d like to thank all the leaders who shared their high points, as well as each and every one of you for making these achievements—and countless other successes throughout 2024—possible.
Throughout the year, I’ve witnessed our collective willingness to embrace our values of thinking differently, acting with purpose and working together. These values strengthen our resolve to face adversity and accomplish great things.
As we prepare for 2025, I wish you a warm and safe break. I look forward to seeing you in the New Year.

The University of Waterloo acknowledges that much of our work takes place on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg, and Haudenosaunee peoples. Our main campus is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land granted to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River. Our active work toward reconciliation takes place across our campuses through research, learning, teaching, and community building, and is co-ordinated within the Office of Indigenous Relations.
