Welcome to NSERC-UNENE Chair in Risk-Based Life Cycle Management of Engineering Systems

The University Network of Excellence in Nuclear Engineering (UNENE) in partnership with the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) established the Industrial Research Chair (IRC) in Risk-Based Life Cycle Management of Engineering Systems at the University of Waterloo in 2004.

The research program, currently in it's third five year term, is chaired by Dr. Mahesh Pandey in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. The chair program is one of eight university professorships established by UNENE in Ontario.

The main goal of the research program is to enhance existing risk assessment and life cycle management capabilities and to provide the nuclear industry with practical solutions for improving plant efficiency. The program is also responsible for creating a pool of highly skilled scientists and engineers to satisfy the industry's demand for workforce renewal.

    Prof. Pandey will be giving a keynote lecture at the upcoming 12th International Conference on Structural Safety & Reliability (ICOSSAR 2017) on August 6-10, 2017 in TU Wien, Vienna, Austria.  The title of his talk is "Stochastic Renewal Processes in Structural Reliability Analysis: An Overview of Models and Applications".
