On November 8, 2024, the Department of Religious Studies held a scholarly discussion on "The 2024 US Presidential Election: A Nation Divided?” with Andrew Hunt, Veronica Kitchen, Carmen Celestini and Scott Kline.⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
Scholars discussed the 47th Presidential election and what it means for US-Canada relations, Canadian domestic politics, the role of religion in politics, information on social media, and the future of liberal democracy.⁣⁣⁣

The event was well attended with over fifty in-person participants. ⁣

Congratulations to professor Jeff Wilson on his new article: "Buddhism Without Merit: Theorizing Buddhist Religio-Economic Activity in the Contemporary World", published by the Journal of Global Buddhism.

We are very pleased to announce that two of our undergraduate students received departmental awards at this year's spring convocation ceremony.

Douglas Tennant was awarded the Religious Studies Departmental Award. Douglas graduated with a BA in Religious Studies with a World Religions Specialization.

Claris Lam received the St. Jerome's University Religious Studies Departmental Award. Claris graduated with a BA in Religious Studies and a minor in English Language and Literature.
