At Renison there are many opportunities to get involved with throughout your time here, depending on where your interests lie, in order to make sure your experience is exceptional.
- Several different student run organizations
- A variety of personal development and social events throughout the year
- Many external volunteer opportunities within the greater Kitchener-Waterloo community
Each year, resident students elect a student committee (Renisix) to deal with issues affecting those living at Renison. Renisix plans events and acts as a voice for the residents concerning community living.
Renisix is tasked with enhancing the social atmosphere of the College for those who live in its residence halls. A student run council, Renisix gives students the opportunity to take ownership of their residence experience and provide opportunities for students to have fun and meet others in the University College. Working under the supervision of the Residence and student life coordinator, Renisix achieves its mandate by investigating what students want out of their residence experience and finding ways to provide for those wants.
Renisix has lots of opportunities to get involved, whether it is organizing an event as a social convenor or promoting events to your floor, Renisix offers something for you!
Speak to your Don in September about how to get involved.
The Renison Academic Student Council (RASC) is a student government composed of undergraduate Renison registered students who take courses on campus. The goals of RASC are to advocate for the needs of its members as well as enhance their social atmosphere while at university. A student run council, RASC works with other student governments on campus to ensure its member are aware of any discussions on campus that are important to fees they pay, the programs they take, courses they are enrolled in, and any concerns they may have about Renison University College.
Social Development Studies (SDS) student society
As a student society of RASC, the SDS student society works to better the student experience of those students in the SDS program. They do this by running stress relief events and volunteering as a group with local organizations.
Each year the SDS Society students choose an organization to raise money for to give back to our community and this year we choose Monica Place. Monica Place is a resource centre located in downtown Waterloo that provides help to young mothers who are pregnant, parenting or choosing adoption. Their services include supportive housing, counseling, on-site school, and parenting classes among others.
