Student Leaders from Fall 2025

Transformative student leadership opportunities are key to our community at Renison.

Every year, Renison Student Experience & Housing hire student staff in the roles of Peer Leaders, Residence Dons, and Connection Desk Assistants for Renison University College.

Our Peer Leaders make an impact across the college including supporting our residence students, our English language learners studying in our Renison International Programs, as well as daytime degree students studying in our programs and courses at Renison.

Our Residence Dons are integral in our college's ability to provide a safe, supportive community for our residence students to thrive.

Our Connection Desk Assistants are the first faces many students meet when they visit Renison, as they operate our students-helping-students desk at the Moose Tracks Connection Desk.

APPLICATIONS ARE NOW OPEN!

Applications close Sunday, February 1 at 11:59pm ET.

Student Leaders from Fall 2025

What qualities do I need?

As a student leader in a paid leadership opportunity with us, we need you to:

  • Exhibit strong peer mentorship skills: you must have an eagerness to want to mentor and support students.
  • Be outgoing: you won’t be expected to lead cheers, but we need you to feel comfortable facilitating both in-person and virtual events. During this, you will demonstrate a warm, welcoming attitude for every student. You will need to feel comfortable communicating with students via text messaging groups to invite them to participate in events or engage in small talk conversations.
  • Be a positive role model: we need you to possess the skills needed to be a successful student, both personally and academically. You must exhibit awareness and knowledge of strategies for academic and personal success as a student.
  • Have strong knowledge of the university campus: these positions are ideal for undergraduate students with a strong knowledge of campus services and resources, student leadership experience, and especially have a good understanding of the first-year student experience.
  • Be legally able to work in Canada: you must have a Social Insurance Number to fulfill the position.

We see all of our student leadership positions as more than "just" paid jobs, and we hope you do too. These are opportunities to provide critical support to Renison students to support their personal, academic, and professional success.

MANDATORY TRAINING DATES AT OUR STUDENT LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE

It is important that our student leaders are well-trained so they are equipped to support our Renison students. As such, in-person training is mandatory for staff to attend in person at Renison.

🚨Unfortunately, these positions will not be right for you if you are unavailable to attend the mandatory in-person training. Accommodations for alternate training dates/times will not be made. 🚨

Student Leadership Conference Date for Spring 2026 positions: Week of May 4 - 8

Student Leadership Conference Date for Fall 2026 and Winter 2027 positions: Week of August 31 - September 4

Specific dates/times during this week will vary depending on your student leadership position. A final Student Leadership Conference schedule will be available two weeks prior to the training date. You can expect that training will typically take place between 9:00am to 4:00pm during the weekdays. Depending on facilitators’ availability, an occasional session may also happen in the evening.

Would you rather volunteer instead?

Amazing! Volunteering is a terrific way to develop skills in preparation for taking on paid student leadership positions.

Consider getting involved with RASC, Renisix, or the International Programs Student Leadership Team. There's still time to volunteer this term with our student leadership committees!

Come back to our website in late April as we will begin to promote volunteer leadership opportunities for Spring 2026!
