The Research Ethics System is the University's online system that supports the development of study protocols along with the review and notification of ethical clearance.
Log in to the system using your WatIAM credentials. If you are not a Waterloo member, please email researchethics@uwaterloo.ca to request access.

Waterloo has become a member of CANTRAIN (CANadian Consortium of Clinical Trial TRAINing platform). CANTRAIN is an online modular training initiative focused on building clinical trial research competency through experiential and engaged learning opportunities and expert mentorship. If you are interested in enrolling in any of the CANTRAIN courses, registration is required. CANTRAIN courses are currently unavailable as they transition to a new platform.

As of March 18, 2024, a single ethics review model for minimal risk research (TCPS 2, 8.1) will be followed by the University of Waterloo research ethics boards for studies involving multiple REBs or multiple institutions. Please see the multi-jurisdictional research and research ethics review guideline and email researchethics@uwaterloo.ca for more information about how this might apply to your research.
