Requirements for conducting international research
- Review the Waterloo guidelines on international travel.
- Submit fieldwork travel and risk management forms to the Safety Office.
- Refer to the guidelines on human participant protection regulations, guidelines and laws by country. A country outside of North America may have regulations for conducting research by foreign researchers.
- Determine if there are any regulations and respond to these requirements. For example, you may need to:
- Have a collaborator within the country.
- Submit a research ethics application to a government agency (which can take several months).
- Obtain a research visa.
