The University of Waterloo invites applications from emerging artists to exhibit artwork in the University Senate and Boardroom (NH3407). This is an exciting opportunity to present work in one of the University’s most significant governance spaces, where it will be viewed by members of Senate, Board of Governors, university leadership, invited guests, and visitors throughout the year.
One artist will be selected to exhibit work in Display Window B for a one-year exhibition period.
Eligibility
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:
- Currently enroled in either the University of Waterloo MFA or BA in Fine Arts programs.
- University of Waterloo BA or MFA in Fine Arts graduates who completed their degree within the past two years (2024–2026).
- University of Waterloo BA or MFA in Fine Arts alumni who graduated within the past ten years (2016–2026) and are currently enroled in a graduate program at another university.
Artwork
Display Window B is a recessed exhibition space located within the University Senate Boardroom.
Display dimensions: 22’ W × 7’ H × 17” D
Artists may submit completed 2D, 3D, or photographic artwork that can be safely accommodated within the display space. This opportunity is intended to showcase existing work and is not a commission for new work.
University staff will assist with installation. For selected photographic works requiring new production, the University may also provide support for printing costs.
The selected artist will receive an artist fee of $5,000 CAD.

- Letter of Interest
- Briefly identify your eligibility for this opportunity.
- Include your name, email address, phone number, and any other relevant contact information/website.
- Artist Statement
- A statement describing the artwork being proposed for exhibition (maximum 500 words).
- Proposed Artwork
- Up to two images of the artwork proposed for display.
- Supporting Portfolio
- Up to three additional images of recent work that provide context for your artistic practice. Please distinguish these from the proposed artwork.

Selection Process
Applications will be reviewed by an internal selection committee.
The application deadline is September 4, 2026 and the successful applicant will be notified by September 14, 2026.
