UWSA Strategic Planning Committee

Opportunity type: Employment type:

The UWSA is seeking three members to join a Strategic Planning Committee that will help shape the future direction of the association.

We welcome expressions of interest from all Voting Members, including those whose current contracts end within the advertised term of this appointment; preference may be given to Area Representatives.

Openings: 3
Deadline: June 12, 2026
Term: July 1, 2026 – October 31, 2028

What’s involved

This is an opportunity to contribute your ideas, perspectives, and experience to guide UWSA’s priorities and long-term vision. While experience in strategic planning is an asset, it is not required—what matters most is an interest in helping strengthen and grow the UWSA on behalf of its members.

The committee will include a combination of these selected members alongside representatives from the UWSA Board of Directors and the Operations team, ensuring a collaborative approach to planning. The committee will meet approximately every 1–2 weeks in July and August with the goal of producing a strategic plan by September 2026. Meeting cadence will take committee members' schedules into account. Once the plan is adopted, the committee will conduct check-ins a few times a year in collaboration with the Board.

If you are motivated to make an impact and collaborate with colleagues to define the path ahead, we encourage you to apply.

Committee mandate

The committee will be tasked to:

  • Consult with members, directors, and other stakeholders to generate priorities and goals to serve the association, within the following areas of scope:
    • Staff experience and engagement
    • Governance and leadership
    • Organizational growth and sustainability
  • Review and possibly update the objects, mission, vision, and values of the association.
  • Draft a two-year strategic plan for review by the Board of Directors.
  • Propose a process for monitoring and evaluating the strategic plan.
  • Contribute to monitoring the strategic plan through 2028.

Participation rights and recognition

Voting members have the right to participate in UWSA business under the Memorandum of Agreement between the UWSA and the University of Waterloo, as long as participation does not unreasonably interfere with a member’s duties to the University.

Upon request, committee members will receive a letter from the UWSA president and committee chair outlining contributions to the role and its value to the association, for use in performance appraisal.

How to apply

Please submit the UWSA committee application form by June 12. Applications will be reviewed by June 19. Please direct any questions to uwsa@uwaterloo.ca.
