About Alyssa: I have been a UWaterloo staff member since 2018, having worked across campus in Engineering, the Office of Research and Co-op departments. In addition to Co-op, I've worked in both Engineering and the Office of Research. I’m also a proud alumna of Waterloo (Honours BSc in Biology) and hold a Master’s of Environmental Sciences from Guelph. Prior Waterloo, I spent most of my career in environmental consulting. Outside of work, I have two sons that keep me very busy with all their activities. And whenever I have a spare moment you can usually find me with my head in a book (or an audiobook in my ears).
Reason for running: I’ve experienced firsthand the incredible guidance and support that UWSA provides, and I am eager to give back by supporting our staff community and advocating for our collective needs. My goals as President will be to advocate for fair compensation, be a champion for equity, and promote a respectful workplace where everyone can feel safe and perform at their best.
Vision for UWSA: My vision is for a UWSA that is not only supportive, transparent, and inclusive, but also a strong, credible voice that constructively shapes decisions affecting staff. I am committed to building collaborative relationships across the university and strengthening UWSA's influence so staff perspectives are meaningfully considered in the choices that shape our workplace. Together, I believe we can create more opportunities for positive change, elevate staff voices, and build a future at UWaterloo where every staff member feels valued and able to thrive.
