Prof. Gianotti plans Muhammad Ali's funeral and memorial service

Studies in Islam professor, Dr. Timothy Gianotti served as the principal Muslim consultant for Muhammad Ali's funeral events in Arizona and Kentucky last week.  These events included the washing and shrouding of the body, the traditional Islamic funeral (janazah) prayer on Thursday, and the interfaith memorial service on Friday.  Leading up to these events, Prof. Gianotti had served as an advisor to the Ali family for over a decade and, along with Imam Zaid Shakir of Zaytuna College,  had worked very closely with Muhammad Ali and his wife, Lonnie, to plan the events that would mark his inevitable departure from this world.
