Summer Accommodations

Each spring term, Catering and Event Services offers summer accommodations on campus in our student residences. Staying at the University of Waterloo can be a wonderful experience. Centrally located, with an array of restaurants, hiking trails, and green space, this is a great place to call home for a night, a week, a month, or the whole summer! 

Available May through August, summer accommodations are offered in a traditional dormitory-style residence as well as 4-bedroom suites.

Ron Eydt Village (REV)

Ron Eydt Village Rates

  • Available annually between May and August
  • Twin rooms can be reserved for single or double occupancy and include shared washrooms on each floor, one female and one male 
  • Each room contains two single beds, two desks with chairs, and two wardrobes 
  • Rooms include bedding, pillows, towels, and body wash for each guest
  • Accommodation is available for all patrons, whether you are travelling for leisure or attending a conference on campus
  • Long-term room rates and group rates are available 
  • Front desk staff are available on a 24-hour basis (including holidays). The front desk is open from 7 am to 12 am and on-call support is available between midnight and 7 am. For overnight assistance, please call 226-220-8290
  • Daily cleaning of common areas and weekly in-room linen exchange

Rates for 2024: Single and Double Occupancy

  • Nightly: $60.00* plus 13% HST
  • Weekly: $360.00* plus 13% HST

MacKenzie King Village (MKV)

MacKenzie King Village Rates

  • Available annually between May and August
  • Mackenzie King Village is our air-conditioned four-bedroom suite residence
  • Each bedroom includes a twin-sized bed and mattress, desk, lamp, chair, dresser, closet, bookshelves and wastebasket
  • Rooms include bedding, pillows, towels, and body wash for each guest
  • All suites come fully furnished with a living room (two chairs, loveseat & end tables), kitchen (table with four chairs, fridge & stove), two full bathrooms, and two storage closets
  • Accommodation is available for all patrons, whether you are travelling for leisure or attending a conference on campus
  • Check-in through our Summer Accommodations front desk in Ron Eydt Village. The front desk is open daily from 7 a.m. to 12 a.m. and on-call support is available between 12 a.m. and 7 a.m.
  • Daily cleaning of the hallways and weekly linen exchange

Rates for 2024: 2-4 Bedroom Suites

The apartments can be rented as 2, 3, or 4-bedroom suites.

  • $105.00/night + 13% HST for a 4-bedroom apartment with access to two bedrooms
  • $119.00/night + 13% HST for a 4-bedroom apartment with access to three bedrooms
  • $149.00/night + 13% HST for a 4-bedroom apartment with access to four bedrooms

Accommodation Information

Check-In & Check-Out:

Guest check-in is after 4:00 pm and check-out is before 11:00 am. Upon checkout keys must be returned to the Summer Accommodations Front Desk in the original envelope. Please note that a $100.00 (plus applicable taxes) charge will apply for any key not returned.

Non-Smoking Policy:

The University of Waterloo is a non-smoking facility.  Smoking is not permitted within 30 feet (10 metres) of the buildings at any time.  A fine of $250 will be applied to anyone found smoking in their guest room.

Effective July 1, 2024, all smoking is prohibited at our University and campuses, including the use of electronic smoking devices, and electronic nicotine delivery systems that create an aerosol or vapour. Alcohol Consumption:

Guests who are 19 years of age or older are permitted to consume alcohol responsibly in the private sectors of the residence. Alcohol consumption is not permitted in the courtyard areas or the central complex.

Quiet Hours:

For the convenience of all guests “Quiet Hours” are designated from 11:00 pm to 7:00 am. Please respect your neighbours.

Pets and Animals:

In compliance with the health and safety regulations for UWaterloo residence buildings, animals are not permitted in the guest rooms or common areas. Registered service animals are allowed with proper documentation.

There are over 24 different food service outlets around campus.

Our front desk is open 7 days a week from 7:00am to 12:00am (including holidays). If you need immediate assistance between 12:00am and 7:00am, we have a staff person available on call at 226-220-8290 (also posted at our front desk).

Parking

Parking

Free parking is available to guests staying overnight with Summer Accommodations in Lots “S” & ”V” with overflow parking available in Lot “J”. Visitors can also park in these lots by purchasing a parking pass at the “Pay & Display” machine in Lot ”S” for $7.00/day.

Don’t forget to obtain a parking pass from our front desk staff in Ron Eydt Village upon arrival to avoid parking tickets or towing.

We have a fitness centre on the first floor of the North Quad (beside the public washrooms) in Ron Eydt Village. To gain access to the gym between 7 a.m. and 12 a.m., please sign out a gym pass at the front desk. Please note that there is a $10 replacement fee for any pass that is not returned upon checkout.

All guests have access to complimentary Wi-Fi. Please see our staff at the front desk for Internet login information or simply select “UniversityofWaterloo” from the list of wireless connections, select “Register for guest access,” and fill in your information including your name and email.

Spacious dining room and large screen television for those events you can’t afford to miss. You can also log into your favourite streaming services to binge-watch your favourite TV shows. Pool tables are located in the lobby for free use. Games and movies are available to be signed out through the front desk.

Accommodation FAQs

What amenities come with the room?

  • Each room comes with clean linens (pillow, sheets, and blanket), a towel, and body wash. 
  • Guests are encouraged to bring additional hygiene products such as shampoo, conditioner, and other toiletries.

  • If you've forgotten something during your stay, we offer a variety of items for sale, including toothpaste, toothbrushes, and shaving cream at our front desk. Simply ask our staff about our offerings!

  • Please note that towels and linens are exchanged on a weekly basis for transient guests.

How does billing work for Long-Term guests

Guests staying with Summer Accommodations for longer than 30 days can expect to pay on a monthly basis. As each of our guests’ circumstances are different, billing plans will be determined with the client on case by case basis.

Will anyone other than me have access to my room?

  • We will never assign a roommate to share your quarters with you.
  • University staff may need to enter your unit from time to time in order to deal with cleaning and maintenance issues. You will be notified in advance.

Are your facilities air conditioned

  • Only our MKV Residence is air-conditioned.
  • Our accommodation facilities are not air-conditioned. The central complex and all of our meeting rooms are air-conditioned. During hot spells guests are encouraged to come to the central complex to cool down, watch some TV, play a game of pool or table tennis. 
  • Guests are not permitted to install air-conditioners of any kind in any of our accommodation facilities (including townhouse or apartment style dorms). 
  • We have a number of fans available for guests to sign out from the front desk. Whenever possible we encourage guests to bring their own fans.

Can I bring my pet?

  • Pets are not allowed.
  • Service animals are an exception, please contact us directly if you require the ability to bring your service animal.

How do I receive mail during my stay?

  • If you are going to be receiving mail during your stay, no matter which residence you are staying in you must have it send to the Summer Accommodations front desk. 
  • Mail gets delivered/picked up at approximately 11 a.m. (Monday to Friday).

How late is the front-desk open?

  • The front desk is open daily from 7 a.m. – 12 a.m.

Is there a photocopier/scanner we can use?

  • Office staff can make photocopies using the office photocopier at a cost of $0.10/copy.
  • A WatCard can be used to make photocopies or to print from the printer in the lobby.
  • ​Front desk staff can scan a copy of your document and email it to you.

How does laundry work?

You need a WatCard, which you can buy at front desk in various amounts. Each wash is $2 and each dry is $2.

What is a guest convenience card?

  • A guest convenience card is a WatCard which has been loaded with either $5 or $20 and can be purchased from the front desk. These cards can be used at any food service location on campus or at other locations which have a partnership with WatCard. For example they can be used to do laundry, use the vending machines and the printers in the lobby. 
  • When the card runs out of money you can add more to it at any food service location on campus or at the WatCard office. 

Where can I catch the Greyhound/GO Bus?

  • GO Transit bus – Davis Centre
  • Greyhound –Burt Matthews Hall (BMH)
  • A front desk assistant can help point you in the direction of these on-campus terminals and will help you find the schedule for your bus trip. 

Do your rooms have a kitchen/washroom?

  • Only suites and suite-style accommodations have these facilities.
  • Floors in Ron Eydt Village for transient guests do have a communal kitchens which are shared with other transient guests on that floor.  Please note that these common kitchens will be closed the last week of August in preparation for the Fall term student arrivals.
  • All floors have communal bathrooms.

Will there be dishes in the suite kitchens?

  • We do have a limited number of kitchen kits which guests can rent for $100/kit that include dishes, cutlery, cookery, utensils, and washing supplies. Guests must request a kit prior to or upon arrival.
