The six Canadian Engineering Grand Challenges (CEGCs) focus the actions and practices of our engineering community on the most compelling and critical issues facing Canada and Canadians from today until 2030.
- Resilient infrastructure
- Access to affordable, reliable and sustainable energy
- Access to safe water in all communities
- Inclusive, safe, and sustainable cities
- Inclusive and sustainable industrialization
- Access to affordable and inclusive STEM education
The CEGCs Champions Program is a unique opportunity for students to engage with these challenges and showcase the ways in which they are making a difference.
CEGCs champions will receive a badge and a chance to meet other like minded engineering students across Canada. Participating institutions include Dalhousie Univeristy, McMaster University, McGill University, University of Northern British Columbia and Western University.
How it works
There are four steps to becoming a CEGCs Champion.

- Describe your experiences and reflections on these learning experiences using the DEAL Model in a three-minute thesis (3MT) format
- Complete the form below and upload your video and presentation slide
Who is eligible?
Any current Waterloo Engineering undergraduate or graduate student can take part in the program.
CEGCs Champions videos
Your submission will be evaluated by Waterloo Engineering Faculty and your video will be hosted below and in our CEGCs Champions Showcase. Your contribution will play an important part in raising awareness of these critical issues for the discipline of engineering.
