Machine Learning and Text Analytics 2 Workshop

Machine Learning and Text Analytics continued

This professional development workshop is a hands-on introduction to the use of machine learning and natural language processing for textual analysis for participants familiar with techniques of pre-processing and structuring text data (as introduced in the Machine Learning and Text Analytics I Workshop).

Format/Structure of the Workshop

A combination of presentations, table group exercises and open discussion will be used. Participants will need to bring laptops suitable for downloading text analytic tools. Detailed download instructions will be provided several weeks in advance of the workshop.

What’s it all about? This workshop will introduce automated approaches for addressing a variety of issues of interest to workshop participants; for example: analyzing text for sentiment and readability; using machine learning for topic modelling and clustering; using machine learning to classify text-based narratives; validating and reporting the accuracy of classification models.

Who should attend? This workshop would be useful to practitioners who are interested in developing services using text analytics and machine learning in their areas of interest.

Learning objectives

After completing this workshop an attendee will be able to:

  • Describe the purpose of different automated machine learning techniques commonly used in text analytics
  • Ask appropriate questions when evaluating text analytic tools and services in the rapidly changing landscape of text analytics that includes cloud services
  • Ask appropriate questions when evaluating the results of machine learning analyses of text
