Academic Program Reviews & Quality Assurance Home

The University of Waterloo undertakes regular reviews of all its academic programs, as outlined in the Institutional Quality Assurance Process (IQAP) (pdf) approved by Senate. The framework is consistent with recommendations of the Ontario Universities Council on Quality Assurance (Quality Council). The Quality Assurance Office facilitates this process on behalf of the Associate Vice-President, Academic and the Associate Vice-President, Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs.

The review processes are subject to regular audit by the Quality Council. The University of Waterloo was audited by the Quality Council in 2017-2018. The Summary of the Principle Findings of the Quality Assurance Audit was received in September 2018. There are nine recommendations, a number of which highlight areas that were previously identified, and are either in the midst of being resolved or that the Quality Assurance Office is prepared to address.

All University of Waterloo degrees must follow the University Guidelines for Undergraduate Degree Level Expectations (UDLEs), or the University Guidelines for Graduate Degree Level Expectations (GDLEs).
