Future undergraduate students

New study finds that 13 per cent of students in the University of Waterloo’s Faculty of Environment carried out work related to the sustainable development goals (SDGs). Waterloo created a pilot program to help increase both co-op student and employer awareness of SDGs.

Work-Learn Institute research shows increase in students’ teamwork and critical thinking after taking part in the program. WE Accelerate aims to help vulnerable first work-term co-op students build skills to enhance employment for subsequent work terms – and according to research, it has achieved that goal.

Much like the namesake of the award they recently received, three University of Waterloo students are dedicated to the pursuit of reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The students, who each have a strategic vision in this space, were awarded the Louis Giroux Scholarship in Greenhouse Gas Reduction Science.

Michael Litt (BASc ’11) and Devon Galloway (BASc ’10), cofounders of video sharing app Vidyard, credit their success to the hands-on skillset they gained from co-op. With Vidyard now having over 12 million users, the founders have started a venture capital firm to invest in new talent and support the next generation of innovators.
