Prof. Weihua Zhuang, Xuemin (Sherman) Shen, and our BBCR members attended the 2024 IEEE 100th Vehicular Technology Conference (VTC2024-Fall) on October 7, 2024, in Washington DC, USA. As the president of the IEEE Vehicular Technology Society,  Prof. Zhuang gave the opening remarks and hosted the award event.

Our work titled “Energy-Efficient UAV-Assisted Mobile Edge Computing: Resource Allocation and Trajectory Optimization” by Mushu Li, Nan Cheng, Jie Gao, Yinlu Wang, Lian Zhao, and Prof. Sherman (Xuemin) Shen received the 2024 IEEE Best Land Transportation Paper Award from the IEEE Vehicular Technology Society. Congratulations!

Prof. Sherman Shen attended the IEEE Hong Kong 6G Wireless Summit, on September 11-12, 2024, in Hong Kong, China, and gave a speech on "Holistic Network Virtualization: AI-native 6G".

The IEEE Hong Kong 6G Wireless Summit attracts participation from prominent academics, leading industry members and practitioners, and government leaders. It offers attendees from research and industry innovative insights from industry leaders and academic pioneers regarding the latest research on 6G and standards activities from leading wireless research centers around the world. The presentations will only include invited talks and panels and are intended to provide critical information on 6G technological advances to help guide current and future decisions on use and implementation of these technologies.

Our work titled "Transmission Protocol Customization for On-demand Tile-based 360° VR Video Streaming" by Yannan Wei, Qiang Ye, Kaige Qu, Weihua Zhuang, and Xuemin (Sherman) Shen won the Best Paper Award from IEEE/CIC International Conference on Communications in China (ICCC) 2024.

This paper proposes a customized transmission protocol that accommodates unique characteristics of tile-based 360° VR video streaming and viewing behavior dynamics induced by head movements to achieve a better viewing experience with reduced video downloading time and improved video quality.

IEEE/CIC ICCC is a regional flagship conference being held annually throughout the greater China region under the vision of realistic globalization by extending IEEE ComSoc's reach to the fastest-growing region.

Congratulations to all the authors!

Congratulations to Mushu Li, Nan Cheng, Jie Gao, Yinlu Wang, Lian Zhao, and Prof. Sherman (Xuemin) Shen! Their paper titled “Energy-Efficient UAV-Assisted Mobile Edge Computing: Resource Allocation and Trajectory Optimization” was honored with the IEEE Best Land Transportation Paper Award. The award will be presented in October at the upcoming IEEE Vehicular Technology Conference 2024 fall conference in Washington DC, USA.

The IEEE Best Land Transportation Paper Award is to recognize the best paper relating to Land Transportation published in the IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology over the last 5 years.

Mingcheng He and Shisheng Hu won the Second Prize and the Third Prize, respectively, in the IEEE ComSoc Four Minute Thesis (4MT) final competition held at IEEE ICC 2024 in Denver, USA, on June 11, 2024, for their excellent technical contributions and clear presentations. Congratulations!

IEEE ComSoc organizes the 4MT Competition at the ICC 2024 and awards Ph.D. students who clearly explain their research projects and technical contributions to non-specialist audiences in just four minutes with 4MT Competition Awards.

Our project titled "Reconfiguration-Cost-Efficient Virtual Network Embedding in Satellite Networks" by Zhixuan Tang, Conghao Zhou, and Shisheng Hu, supervised by Prof. Xuemin (Sherman) Shen, won the Best Innovative Concept Project at the Workshop “Leaders of Tomorrow” hosted by IEEE Toronto Section on June 7, 2024, in Toronto, ON, Canada. Congratulations!

The IEEE Toronto VTS/ComSoc/YP (Vehicular Technology, Communication, and Young Professions) Chapters award young professionals or students who present an innovative engineering design and demonstrate a significant technical project in the workshop “Leaders of Tomorrow” with the Best Innovative Concept Award.
