Prof. Mushu Li from Lehigh University, USA, visited the BBCR Group at the University of Waterloo on June 2, 2026. During the visit, Prof. Li delivered an inspiring research talk titled “From Sensing to Understanding: World Models for Semantic-Aware Collaborative Perception.”
Professor Xuemin (Sherman) Shen participated in the IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc) 2026 Board of Governors (BoG) Meeting, which was held from May 25 to 27, 2026, in Glasgow, Scotland, UK.
Professor Xuemin (Sherman) Shen has been selected as the 2026 recipient of the IEEE Canada A.G.L. McNaughton Award, one of IEEE Canada’s most prestigious medal distinctions.
This honour recognizes exceptional contributions to the field of communication networks, as reflected in the award citation: "For contributions to wireless and ultra-band communication networks with substantial impact on accessibility, security, and user privacy protection."
Established in 1969, the A.G.L. McNaughton Award is IEEE Canada’s highest honour, presented to outstanding Canadian engineers in recognition of exemplary contributions to the engineering profession.

Prof. Xuemin (Sherman) Shen and Prof. Weihua Zhuang attended the Xiangjiang Forum, hosted by the China Computer Federation (CCF), on February 26, 2026, in Hong Kong, China. During the forum, Prof. Zhuang delivered a keynote speech titled “Intelligent Network Management for 6G.” In addition, Prof. Shen received the Outstanding Contribution Award in recognition of his significant contributions.

Prof. Xuemin (Sherman) Shen and several BBCR members attended the Seventeenth International Conference on Wireless Communications and Signal Processing (WCSP 2025), held from October 23 to 25, 2025, in Chongqing, China. As the International Advisory Committee Chair, Prof. Shen delivered a speech at the opening session and presented the Best Paper Awards at the banquet.
