Holmium: Ideas from the grade 9 science class were brought together after students individually researched holmium. Each student completed a tile and the class selected the one that best represented holmium. This tile was created by Leah Foley. The background was painted a metallic grey colour because pure holmium is known to be this colour. Red lines were also drawn in the background to represent laser beams as holmium is used in lasers in a variety of medical equipment. The tile is made from a texturized ceiling tile because it resembled the way that holmium looked. A magnet was used to represent holmium because holmium is known to have the highest magnetic strength of any element. Lastly, the atomic number and symbol were painted in a yellow colour to represent the yellow oxide of holmium, holmia.
