Vanadium, 23, Ocean Lakes High School, Virginia USA
Vanadium: The design in the center is an industrialized shape that contains forms representing surgical syringes, tools, and a tire from the Ford Model T (in which vanadium was used). The color scheme reflects vanadium’s silver-blue hue, and the patterns on the side represent its structural patterns. The element’s name and atomic number are clearly represented; however, the element symbol (V) is formed by shape, rather than a literal character, and serves as the backdrop of the composition. In all, the colors, forms, and the lines of the composition combine to portray vanadium in a dominated and industrialized way.
