Artistry, Inquiry, and Democracy: Together as They Always Should Be - presentation by Dr. Robert Danisch

Thursday, October 17, 2013 3:30 pm - 3:30 pm EDT (GMT -04:00)

The Speech Communication program will host a Research Colloquium with a presentation by Dr. Robert Danisch.

Over a century ago John Dewey argued that democracy was a way of life and not just a system of government.  That insight remains one of the more enduring and vital intellectual contributions made by American pragmatism.  This talk takes that insight and tries to sketch a model of communication that might promote democracy as a way of life.  Any such model needs to rely on the value of artistry and a commitment to inquiry.  In this presentation, I’ll try to show that combining communicative artistry with communicative inquiry can improve democracy as a way of life.

All faculty, staff, and students are welcome to attend.
