Proceedings and schedule

Graduation ceremonies take place at various times throughout the day, and arrival times will vary depending on whether your ceremony is in the morning, afternoon, or evening.

To ensure a smooth and timely start, please check the schedule for your designated arrival time.

Each ceremony follows a structured program that honours academic traditions. At the start, the graduating class will be led in a formal procession into the main gymnasium, where they will take their seats and remain standing until the faculty and chancellor's parties process in.

Once seated, attendees will observe the national anthem and an Indigenous opening, followed by welcoming remarks. The ceremony also features special presentations, such as the awarding of honorary doctorates and titles, as well as speeches from the senior leaders.

The highlight of the ceremony is the conferment of degrees. At the point in the proceedings when the earned degrees are to be conferred, the vice-chancellor will request the members of the graduating class to rise in their places and then will address the chancellor as follows:

Finally, outstanding students are recognized through the presentation of medals and awards. After closing remarks, the event is adjourned.
