Support Convocation

Convocation is a culmination of hard work and dedication, and it’s important we celebrate and participate as a community. It takes many faculty, staff and students to bring this large celebration to life, and your interest in participating is greatly appreciated!

Students - Applications will open on April 30

Support convocation by applying to one of the paid student roles. Student roles are primarily customer service positions, providing exceptional care to grads and guests. See information for paid student roles.

To join the student ambassador program you will fill out an application.  If your application is accepted, you will be notified. The application opens Tuesday, April 30

Staff and alumni

Become an ambassador to help run the event by participating in the student procession, assisting students before crossing the stage, and making sure that everything runs smoothly behind the scenes. See frequently asked questions.

Faculty members

Visit the faculty procession page if you are interested in volunteering your time to participate in the faculty procession, part of the larger academic procession, or for a particular faculty ceremony.

Managers

Convocation Roles

Below is a list of the roles available for ambassadors and customer service representatives at convocation and quick facts about each.

Team Team Description

Marshal team

The Marshal team is responsible for directing grads throughout the convocation ceremony. 

A successful Marshal team will keep grads in order during the procession and help the ceremony stay on track.

Chancellor's Robing Room team

The Chancellor's Robing Room team will work closely with the Chancellor's Party to ensure all members of the procession are prepared for the ceremony. 

A successful Chancellor's Robing Room team will be professional and detail-oriented.  

Faculty Robing Room team

The Faculty Robing Room team will work closely with members of the Faculty Procession to ensure all members of the procession are prepared for the ceremony. 

A successful Faculty Robing Room team will be professional and detail-oriented.  

Hooding Area team

The Hooding Area team will work closely with grads to ensure they receive the appropriate hoods and line up in the correct order.

A successful Hooding team will be detail-oriented and organized.

Name Card team

The Name Card team will help grads find their name cards at the grad check-in and problem solve when necessary. 

Note: Name Card assistants will transition to Stage Management Assistants during their shift. This will be communicated on-site

Stage Management team

The Stage Management team will organize, communicate grad names, and provide stage directions to grads prior to crossing the stage

Wayfinder team

The Wayfinder team will work closely with guests and grads to provide direction information and general answers to any questions.

Note: Wayfinder is a customer service role available only to students.

Accessibility team

The Accessibility team will work closely with the Wayfinder team to provide excellent customer service to guests who require accessibility accommodations.

Note: Accessibility Assistant is a customer service role available only to students.

Usher team

The Usher team will work closely with guests and VIP's, providing excellent customer service and directional information in ceremony.

Note: Usher is a customer service role available only to students.

Alumni experience team

The Alumni Experience team will provide the ultimate customer service experience with answering questions and directing new alumni and guests on the reception field.

Note: This role is outdoors, and will require standing for long periods of time.
