Award description:
An award, valued at $7,500 will be awarded annually to a full-time graduate student enrolled in the master’s or doctoral program in the Faculty of Science who is conducting research that overlaps in the area of life sciences or biology with preference to those whose research is interdisciplinary. Selection is based on academic achievement (minimum 75% cumulative average or equivalent over the last two years of full-time study). Interested students are to submit their expressions of interest and supporting material to the Faculty of Science Graduate Studies Office by February 15. This fund is made possible by a donation from David Major (BSc’81, MSc’84, Ph’D’87 Biology) to support the continuing education of promising graduate students.

Eligibility & selection criteria:
- Full-time graduate students enrolled in the master’s or doctoral program in the Faculty of Science
- Students must be conducting research that overlaps in the area of life sciences or biology with preference to those whose research is interdisciplinary Some examples of interdisciplinary research could be microbiology/oil & gas; microbiology & agriculture; biomedical application and technology.
- Selection to be based on academic achievement (minimum cumulative average of 75% or equivalent over the last two years of full-time study)
- Interested applicants will be required to submit a personal statement, by February 15, describing how they have demonstrated dedication to the pursuit of their postgraduate degree and describe what receiving this award would mean to that goal.
- Award recipients will be chosen each Winter after submission to the Faculty of Science Graduate Administrator.
- This award can be held in conjunction with any other funding they may be receiving
- Students selected by the Faulty of Science each Winter
