Award description:
One award valued at $7,500 will be provided annually to a doctoral candidate registered full-time in the Department of History in the Faculty of Arts at the University of Waterloo who has completed their comprehensive field examinations. Selection will be based on academic achievement (minimum 80% cumulative average over the last two full-time academic years) and a demonstrated interest in gender studies from a historical perspective, which includes (but is not limited to) such related topics as women's history, history of masculinity, gender and society, gender and the state, and/or scholarly engagement in gender theory or concepts of gender as a social construct. Interested students should submit a letter between 500 - 750 words indicating how they are addressing the topic by November 1st. Selection will be made by a committee in the Department of History. This fund is made possible by the generous donations received from alumni, friends, family, and former students of Dr. Wendy Mitchinson, Distinguished Professor Emerita, and an innovator of Canadian women's history.
