Rock your Thesis: Plan Your Project
It's time to start planning your thesis or dissertation: now what?
You’re about to finish your coursework or comprehensive exams and have started to think about writing your thesis or dissertation. Where do you begin?
Rock Your Thesis is a three-part program that guides graduate students through the first phases of planning and writing a thesis or dissertation. The series covers topics such as planning and project management, structuring your thesis or dissertation, writing a literature review, using strategies for finding and recording research sources, and revision.
Each of the three Rock Your Thesis sessions balances talks from support staff across campus with hands-on activities to guide you through your own planning, drafting, and revising process.
Part 1: Plan Your Project: January 22, 2025
The first in the three-part “Rock Your Thesis” series will equip you with the skills you need to plan a large academic writing project like a thesis or dissertation. This hands-on, interactive program has four objectives:
- Introduce you to common thesis and dissertation structures and strategies for deciding how to structure your own project
- Share project management tools and strategies and give you a chance to plan a research and writing timeline
- Demonstrate strategies for finding and organizing academic research
- Highlight university regulations that will inform your project planning
This workshop is best suited for Master’s and PhD students who are near completing, or have completed their coursework but have not yet begun actively writing their thesis or dissertation project.
Future Rock Your Thesis sessions:
- Part 2: Starting to Write: April 16, 2025
- Part 3: Revise and Submit: June 11, 2025
