Meet Waterloo’s 10 new Schulich Leaders

This is an excerpt of an article originally published on Waterloo News.
The University of Waterloo is pleased to welcome 10 outstanding students to its incoming first-year class through the prestigious Schulich Leader Scholarships program.
Awarded annually to 100 high school graduates across Canada, these scholarships recognize exceptional individuals who demonstrate strong entrepreneurial potential in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Each Schulich Leader receives between $100,000 and $120,000, empowering them to pursue their academic goals with financial peace of mind.
Since 2012, nearly 90 Schulich Leaders have chosen Waterloo as the launchpad for their academic and professional journeys.
“I am pleased to welcome this year’s cohort of Schulich Leader Scholars to the University of Waterloo,” says president and vice-chancellor Dr. Vivek Goel. “These students are among the brightest young minds in STEM, and I look forward to seeing the breakthroughs, dedication and shared success they will contribute to our community and beyond.”
Meet the 10 remarkable student scholars joining Waterloo this September.

Lectures in Catholic Experience presents “Struck Down, Not Destroyed: Keeping the Faith as a Vatican Reporter”

A message from St. Jerome's University.
On September 18, the Lectures in Catholic Experience at St. Jerome's University will host Colleen Dulle, an accomplished journalist and podcaster who currently serves as the Vatican correspondent for America magazine. She will give the Michael W. Higgins Lecture on Religion and Media drawing from her new book Struck Down, Not Destroyed (Penguin Random House).
The theme of this year’s series is “Living the Mission in the Margins” and in this lecture we will learn both more about the people at the margins of society that Dulle often writes about as a journalist focused on contemporary Catholic life. We will also hear her very personal “notes in the margins” as she reflects on what reporting on stories about the institutional Church that are abhorrent have done to her personal faith.
St. Jerome’s President, Peter Meehan, notes “Colleen Dulle has, in a comparatively short space of time, established her reputation as a thoughtful and a trustworthy Vatican journalist. Having read Struck Down, Not Destroyed I was deeply moved by her candour as well as by her own faith journey, as it played out through her reporting on some of the most gruesome chapters in the recent history of the church. Hers will be voice to listen to as we sort out what “Mission in the Margins” means throughout the St. Jerome’s Lectures in Catholic Experience.”
This free event will take place on St. Jerome's campus in Notre Dame Chapel on Thursday, September 18at 7:30 p.m. and will be live-streamed for people who cannot attend in person. Please register for the event, as space is limited.
