UWSA Election Information Sessions

Friday, September 12, 2025 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm EDT (GMT -04:00) Monday, September 15, 2025 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm EDT (GMT -04:00)

Whether you're thinking about running for Staff Association president or the Board of Directors, or want to be informed so you can vote for the best candidates, this info session is for you! You'll hear from the current UWSA directors, president, and president-elect about their experiences in the role and have an opportunity to ask questions.

You'll learn:

  • How UWSA elections work

  • How the president and directors work to represent staff voices and interests across our campuses

  • What makes a good president or director

  • What you'll gain from serving in either role

Registration is not required (we'll share links with all members closer to the events), but is appreciated. You can submit questions in advance when you register.

Choose from three sessions:

  • Tuesday, September 9 at noon
  • Friday, September 12 at noon
  • Monday, September 15 at 2:00 p.m.

Why run?

Presidents and directors make a real difference to the association and its members.

  • The president sets short-term and advocacy priorities, supervises the UWSA's day-to-day activities, and sets the tone for the association.
  • Directors set long-term goals for the association, provide important financial and governance oversight, and safeguard the UWSA's future.

In either role, you get to:

  • Support and champion staff interests
  • Build lifelong skills and connections
  • Participate in university-level committees
  • Gain governance experience and training
  • Help make UW an even better place for staff to work!

UWSA leadership is a great professional development opportunity.

You’ll learn a lot about how the university works, and you’ll meet people you normally wouldn’t from all across the university, including senior leadership. You’ll also get training in non-profit governance, meeting facilitation, leadership, and more. Presidents spend a year supervising three full-time staff and are encouraged to take UW's leadership training workshops.

All members are eligible to be nominated for these roles.
