Warriors baseball team takes bronze at OUA finals

By Sam Bellerose. This is an excerpt of an article originally published on the Athletics and Recreation website.
The Waterloo Warriors have won the OUA bronze medal on a walk-off home run from Carter Kipp. It's the third straight OUA medal for the Warriors, who earned silver in 2023 and 2024. Waterloo fell to the Toronto Varsity Blues Saturday at Bechtel Park before winning the bronze medal game Saturday on home soil on Jack Couch Park. The Varsity Blues, meanwhile, earned their third consecutive OUA championship with an 11-3 routing of Carleton in the gold medal game.
Semifinal #1 – Toronto 11, Waterloo 5
Both teams traded runs early in this rematch of the 2023 and 2024 OUA championship game, with the score 2-2 through two. Toronto chased Varsity Blues starter Max Tod in the third - taking a 5-2 lead - after the fourth-year pitcher threw eleven strong innings at last weekend's OUA Far West Regional.
Luca Valvoheld down the fort for the next four innings and allowed the Warriors to cut the lead to one in the bottom of the seventh. A four-run top of the eighth gave Toronto a comfortable lead that they wouldn't relinquish. Armin Najmaie came in for the final two innings to record the save.
Diego Fuentes was the tournament standout and made his presence felt early on Friday with three RBIs on three hits and two runs scored.

Let's talk about sustainable menstruation

A message from the Office of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Anti-Racism.
When we talk about sustainability, we usually think about recycling bins, carbon footprints, and climate change. But what about periods — something that many people experience every month and yet it’s still treated like a secret or a problem to hide?
Period sustainability isn’t only about reducing waste; it’s about confronting social issues like period poverty and menstrual stigma. Karen Farley, a recent master’s graduate from the School of Environment, Enterprise and Development, in collaboration with the Office of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Anti-Racism (EDI-R), invites us to face this often-ignored reality at the next Menstrual Equity Lunch and Learn series session: Finding the Balance in Sustainable Menstruation. The session will explore both sides of sustainable menstruation, finding the balance between environmental concerns, like menstrual product waste disposal, and social issues, such as period poverty and stigma.
Register to discover what true sustainable menstruation looks like — one that cares for both the planet and the people living on it.
