Case teaching workshop

Waterloo Cases in Design Engineering (WCDE) offers workshops each term on the effective use of engineering case studies in undergraduate teaching. This workshop is motivated by the desire to maximize the impact of our cases, and by the interest that many faculty members from various departments have had in learning more about using case studies effectively.

The main goal of the workshops is to provide participants with a better understanding of the case method of teaching and the benefits of case studies. We will also introduce faculty members to the case study resources offered by WCDE, and highlight a few of the case studies currently ready for use in undergraduate courses.

Participants will work through the steps in the case teaching process using examples and group discussions. The workshop is designed for those who are new to the use of cases for teaching, as well as those who have case teaching experience but want to improve their teaching effectiveness.

The next workshop offering is TBA. More details will follow. Please contact a WCDE team member to register.

I think getting case study experience is the first step in really helping students see all the possibilities and everything they can accomplish.
