The course aims to help the University community in understanding, and dismantling systemic racism and oppression across our campus.
Dr. Kathy Hogarth (Wilfrid Laurier) and Dr. Jada Koushik (Family and Children's Services of the Region of Waterloo) developed the course in collaboration with UWaterloo's Office of Equity, Diversity, and Anti-racism, Office of the Associate Vice-President, Academic, and the Centre for Extended Learning.
The course offers valuable insights into how historical systems of oppression continue to shape our society and the impact it has on marginalized groups. It equips course participants with the ability to recognize and challenge racism in the classroom, workplace, and personal life, fostering a more inclusive and understanding campus environment.
This 5-module course will take approximately 3-4 hours to complete on the LEARN system. Learning about or engaging with content on anti-racism and anti-oppression requires self-reflection and self-care and may require additional self-directed learning. For this reason, we encourage you to take time between the modules to process the content and apply the learnings.
