Step by Step instructions
Step 1: Access the portal
Access the secure CIBC portal, choose the country you are making the payment from, enter the amount you wish to pay to the University of Waterloo in Canadian dollars, and then click NEXT.
Step 2: Select your Preferred Currency & Payment Method

Step 3: Insert Student & Payer Details
Enter both the student and payer information. Make sure the student details are accurate so that the funds are correctly applied to your student account. If the student is also the payer, you can select ‘Use Student Info’ checkmark on the ‘Payer Details’ page to automatically fill in all required fields.
Step 4: Submit the Payment
Review all payment details and submit your payment. Depending on the payment method chosen, you may be prompted to follow a few additional, easy-to-follow steps.
For Bank Wire payments, an instruction sheet will be sent to both the student’s and payer’s email addresses. Please visit your bank and complete the payment using these instructions. Be sure to include the CIBC Unique Reference ID, formatted as WTL-XXXXXXXXXX, in your wire transfer. You must complete the payment within 72 hours of initiating the transaction on the CIBC portal.
For payments made by credit/debit card, China UnionPay, Alipay, WeChat, or Direct Debit ACH, your payment will be processed immediately and no further action is required.
Step 5: Trace your Payment
You will receive email notifications at each stage of the transaction process. After your payment has been processed, please allow a few business days for it to appear in your student account. You can also monitor the status of your payment at any time using the following link.
