Planning Expert Clarence Woudsma Joins FCI
The Future Cities Institute founded by CAIVAN has appointed Clarence Woudsma as Co-Director, Academic, marking a significant expansion of the institute’s leadership team. An Associate Professor in the School of Planning at the University of Waterloo and a Registered Professional Planner (RPP), Woudsma brings three decades of rigorous, applied research in transportation systems, last-mile logistics, and urban mobility policy to the role.
In this position, Woudsma will shape FCI’s interdisciplinary teaching agenda and oversee the Master of Future Cities (MFC) program. Under Woudsma’s leadership, the program will continue to train graduate students to analyze complex urban dynamics and develop the data-backed strategies and tools needed to confront real-world challenges.
Woudsma’s extensive career has focused on the critical mechanics of how goods, people, and commercial infrastructure interact within modern cities. With a track record of connecting research to real planning challenges, his work reflects the exact evidence-backed, grounded approach upon which FCI was founded.
