Ready to Shape the Future?
Thank you for your interest in either registering for the Interdisciplinary Capstone (i-Capstone) course, or claiming a project for your home Capstone course.
i-Capstone is a unique opportunity to bring together motivated fourth-year students from across the University of Waterloo to work in interdisciplinary teams and tackle complex, real-world challenges in cities and communities. Interested in seeing what the course looks like?
Before registering, please take a few moments to explore the types of projects available and reflect on where your passion and skills can make the biggest difference.
Step 1: Explore Available Projects
You’ll choose between two streams of capstone experiences:
-
Future Cities Institute (FCI) Projects
Partner-driven, community-focused, and centred around topics like housing, sustainable infrastructure, mobility, and data. These projects are supported by the Future Cities Institute and involve close collaboration with external partners. -
Open Call Interdisciplinary Projects
These include a variety of interdisciplinary challenges that aren’t directly affiliated with FCI, but still align with Capstone’s mission. They may be initiated by other departments, faculty, or partner organizations, and can be claimed for your home Capstone.
Please review both sets of project briefs to see where your skills, interests, and goals align.
Step 2: Register
Once you’ve explored the options, complete the student registration form to express your preferences and join a team.
PLEASE NOTE: We strongly encourage reaching out to your faculty's Academic Coordinator to confirm your participation in i-Capstone.
We can’t wait to see what you build, and how you’ll help shape the cities of tomorrow.
