GSJ Faculty Workshop: Trauma-informed Pedagogy

Experiences of trauma are common and our Gender and Social Justice Community, including instructors, students, and staff have recently experienced a traumatic attack on our campus, in our classroom. Many of our students are hyper-aware and hypersensitive to topics that broach themes of violence, oppression, and power, topics that are central to many of our courses. As instructors, we are often balancing student socio-emotional needs with essential course content. This workshop on Trauma-Informed Pedagogy can help instructors develop meaningful and careful ways to engage difficult subjects in our classes.

This workshop will have a three and three structure. Workshop presenters will introduce the theory and practice of trauma-informed pedagogy by providing three main ideas of trauma-informed pedagogy and three strategies for including trauma-informed pedagogy in our classes. There will be lots of time for discussion.

This workshop will take place on October 23 from noon to 1:00 on TEAMS. Register here.

This workshop will be led by Greta Kroeker and Rebecca MacAlpine, who are experts in trauma-informed pedagogy.

Note: This workshop was previously taught on October 17, 2023, through the Centre for Teaching Excellence.
