Menstrual Hygiene Day was celebrated on May 26th at the University of Waterloo. GoHelP's Sabrina Li was one of the two primary organizers for the event, supported by a team of volunteers. Guest speakers included Dr. Susan Elliott and Elizabeth Onyango (Queen Elizabeth Scholar) from the GoHelP team, who discussed topics such as the lack of menstrual hygiene and consequences for girls in East Africa, and the best contributors to improving menstrual hygiene in the developing world, such as water and sanitation, during the panel discussion.

A big congratulations to GoHelP's George Atiim for the acceptance of his paper in the journal of Global Health Research and Policy:

George A Atiim; Susan J Elliott, PhD; Ann E Clarke, MD. "If we are waiting for the numbers alone, we will miss the point". A qualitative study of the perceived rise of food allergy and associated risk factors in the Greater Accra region, Ghana. 

The Rideau Hall Foundation released its 2016-2017 annual report for the Canadian Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Scholarship Program this week. QES scholar and GoHelP lab member Liz Ochola is featured on the front page of the article, as well as inside in a photo with His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, the Governor General of Canada.  The pictures were taken during the QES scholar visit to Rideau Hall in June 2016.

The article 'Evaluability assessment of a small NGO in water-based development', co-authored by Stephanie Lu, Dr. Susan Elliott, and Christopher Perlman, was published this week in the journal Evaluation. The article examines the unique evaluation barriers and facilitators experienced by small NGOs working in water-based development, through an organizational-level evaluation of the small Canadian NGO, H2O 4 ALL.

Water Institute members receive funding from the Queen Elizabeth Scholars Program

Four Water Institute researchers were recently awarded funding from the Canadian Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Advanced Scholars Program to build institutional capacity in select Commonwealth countries to address linkages between climate change and water security.You can read more on The Water Institute's website.

A big congratulations to GoHelP's Stephanie Lu and the rest of the Wavelength Consulting team for earning a spot in the finals for the 2017 Student Evaluation Case Competition! Wavelength Consulting placed in the top 3 of 10 teams of students from universities and colleges across Canada that participated, winning them a trip to Vancouver to compete in the final round of competition at the 2017 CES Conference.
