AI and Socioeconomic Development: Friend or Foe

Whether we like it or not, whether we realize it or not, applications of Artificial Intelligence have quickly become a ubiquitous part of everyday life. The Google Maps we all rely on, your daily newsfeed, and the conversations you have with Alexa or Siri are all driven by AI. Some worry that over-smart AI-driven computers will one day control us, or that AI-driven social media apps threaten personal welfare, science-based truth and democracy.  Other observers maintain that AI will free people from mundane, repetitive tasks and rapidly facilitate rapid socioeconomic development.

Spark Your Palette with Chef Tim Farley

Want to add an international twist to your usual dinnertime routine? Learn how to cook an international dish from the comfort of your own home with Renison’s Chef, Tim Farley, who will be teaching you how to make fresh shrimp rolls with vegetables and rice noodles served with a traditional Vietnamese dipping sauce.

The African Students Association invites students to submit a photo that tells a story from their home country and/or culture.

Students are encouraged to submit a short (50) word story about the photo they have submitted. The ASA will host an exhibition of the photos along with the printed description located in the Fine Arts building’s multi-purpose room.

A contest will be held where the top 3 photos will receive a prize.

IEW 2022 - Renison international fair

Renison is coordinating their annual International Fair event on Tuesday, November 22, 2022, in the Renison Atrium. 

Student volunteers in our Bridge to Academic Success in English (BASE) program and English for Academic Success (EFAS) program will be hosting interactive displays to educate students on aspects of world cultures.  Students will implement a passport system for participants to stamp as they visit each booth. Once they have 3 stamps, they can go to our international candy table to collect some treats.

IEW 2022 - "Where in the world" photo contest

Students who have had an international work term outside of Canada are invited to submit their photos to showcase the value of their international experience.

For example, you are welcome to submit a photo where you had an experience while abroad, a beautiful or epic scenery you encountered, iconic places you visited, or something that took your breath away and inspired you.

IEW 2022 - Balinese Gamelan Ensemble end of term concert

The Music Department at Conrad Grebel University College is hosting a Balinese Gamelan Ensemble.

Each term students learn how to play the primarily percussive instruments in a communal setting without sheet music, and the concert will allow the audience to learn about the culture of Bali and the different elements of World Music.

Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) presentation by Dr. Klaus Rümmele

Waterloo International is pleased to be hosting Dr. Klaus Rümmele, Head of International Affairs Business Unit, from our valued partner university, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT).
