A powerful and flexible optimization suite that solves integer programming problems, very large linear programming problems and many other types of problems.

Available free to academic users through the IBM academic initiative (you will need to join, but membership is free).

Octave

The Octave language is quite similar to MATLAB so that most programs are easily portable. Octave can be downloaded and installed on your own machine for free from the GNU Octave page.

Pure

A functional programming language based on term rewriting. Pure is open source and available free from the Pure Language home page

SPSS

A computer program used for survey authoring and deployment, data mining , text analytics, statistical analysis, and collaboration and deployment (batch and automated scoring services).

Students can buy a academic-discounted copy from the first link below. Graduate students can purchase a four year licensed copy from Information Systems & Technology (IST) at the Computing Help Information Place (CHIP). If a course requires SPSS then it will be made available on Math Faculty Computing Facility (MFCF) servers.
