Dr. Ruth Slater

Dr. Ruth Slater is a registered psychologist (since 1993) in the province of Ontario, in the areas of clinical and health psychology.  She has worked at the Hospital for Sick Children since 2001, and is currently with the Diabetes and Plastics teams.  She provides support to children, adolescents and families, who are coping with illness or injury.  She is trained as a trainer in Motivational Interviewing (MI) and provides training to staff and students.  In her work, Dr. Slater uses principles from MI, but also Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Family Systems theory, and other approaches that incorporate strengths (e.g., Solution-Focused therapy) and/or mindfulness.
