Clinical psychology graduate students from the University of Waterloo hosted an interactive display booth on The Prevention of Mental Health Issues and Promotion of Mental Health Care Strategies at the recent Student Mental Health Forum at Federation Hall on November 6, 2019.
200 participants registered for the Student Mental Health Forum, which included presentations by the University President, Provost and leaders in the Committee on Student Mental Health initiatives. The talks were followed by an ‘open house’ in which participants were invited to engage in conversation with representatives from the campus and Waterloo Region community to discuss issues of relevance for mental health. The event was part of the campus-wide Thrive week.
Aleece Katan, Jolie Ho and Vanja Vidovic created an engaging interactive display to showcase empirically grounded, practical information about mental health, wellness, and healthy coping. Participants were invited to ‘test’ their knowledge in a clever activity, matching illustrative case scenarios to levels of wellness, stress, and concerns about possible mental health disorders. The display poster was accompanied by a list of references and local area resources.
