Chem494 Honours Students Wrap Up
That's it, that's all for this year's group of Chem494 Honours Students.
Thank you Mila, Nikki and Sabin for all your work over the past year.
Good luck in grad school!

Tristan delivered a Flash Talk on his use of blue LEDs to initiate iodonium ylide photochemistry, highligting the work in his recent Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. paper. For this, he was recognized as having given the best Flash Talk. Congratulations Tristan! And thanks to the rest of the group!
Tristan, Avery, Islam and Fabio headed to QOMSBOC to present their research and network with others in the academia and industry.
The group braved the wind and cold to go to the pumpkin patch for our “annual” adventure.
Fabio Cuzzucoli has joined the group as an NSERC PGS-M Master’s student. He is working on new fluorination methods.
Welcome to the group!
The summer students have all flown the coop. Thank you to Prachi, Cassio and Zoltan for all you hard work. It was fun having you in the lab, and best of luck in your future studies.
Congratulations to Tristan, Islam and Shafa on your paper in ACIE. This is the first example of using blue LEDs to initiate carbene-like chemistry with iodonium ylides, and it is wonderful work.
Of course, we could not have done it without the help of our colleagues Dr. Scott Hopkins (computations) and the UBordeaux team (Dr. Stephane Quideau, Dr. Laurent Pouysegu and Dr. Philippe Peixoto.
After 2.5 years, Leanne has moved on to a lecturer and lab instructor position within UWaterloo. She was more than just a great postdoc, she was a tremendous mentor and a great example of a well-rounded chemist. While she will be a valuable addition to the Chemistry Department at Waterloo, she will be sorely missed in the group.
All the best, and don’t be a stranger!
Zhao and Kevin's paper on denitrogenative hydrotrifluoromethylation of benzaldehyde hydrazones is published in Chemistry - A European Journal. Congratulations!
Kevin and Avery went to the 37th annual Chemistry Graduate Student Symposium (GSS) in Buffalo, NY. They are the first Murphy Group members to attend this conference.
Congrats on the talk (Avery) and poster (Kevin)!
