The following is a statement from D. George Dixon, vice-president, academic and provost
"The University of Waterloo is committed to the free and open exchange of knowledge and ideas. The ability to listen to all ideas, even those we disagree with or find distasteful, is fundamental to the pursuit of knowledge and of learning.
"On Monday, April 30, 2018 a community group will hold an event in the Theatre of the Arts. This is not a University of Waterloo event. The University regularly rents space to internal and external groups at publicly advertised rates. The University of Waterloo does not discriminate against any individual or group based on their beliefs.
We believe it is unacceptable to silence anyone who lawfully proffers an opinion.

"Our policy on ethical behaviour (Policy 33) states that 'the University aims to ensure an environment of tolerance and respect and believes that the right of individuals to advance their views openly must be upheld throughout the University.'
