Pulse on the future: Ronald Li
(BSc ’94)

Ronald Li is the founder of Novoheart Ltd., a global biotech company dedicated to engineering artificial human heart prototypes. Novoheart has developed the world’s first miniature beating human heart, known as “heart-in-a-jar.”

Intelligent imaging: Farnoud Kazemzadeh
(BSc ’08, MASc ’12, PhD ’16)

Farnoud Kazemzadeh is the co-founder and chief executive officer of Elucid Labs, a Waterloo-based startup building the world’s first AI-powered imaging device capable of early detection and non-invasive diagnosis of skin cancer and diseases.

State of flow: Alexa Roeper

Alexa Roeper is the co-founder and chief executive officer of Penta Medical, which produces a portable laser therapy device that helps athletes recover from soft-tissue injuries. The device uses infrared light to increase blood circulation to the injured area, and also collects data to help track recovery.

Patient power: William M. Tatham
(BASc ’83, DEng ’12)

William M. Tatham is the founder and executive chair of NexJ Health Inc., a provider of cloud-based population health management solutions delivering patient engagement for chronic disease management.
