As we continue hearing from diverse voices during our Waterloo at 100 consultations, we are humbled by, and grateful for, the passion and insights coming from this community. As the University prepares for its long-term future, we are hearing imaginative solutions to challenges that will enable Waterloo to lead in inclusive and sustainable ways.

What we’re hearing

With consultations underway for the Waterloo at 100 visioning exercise, we want to thank you and share a few insights we’ve heard from the University community. As we listen to people sharing their thoughts about the vision for a bold future for this institution, we remain inspired by the question at the core of these consultations:

What do we, as an institution, aspire to become by our 100^th anniversary in 2057?

December 6th is the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women in Canada. This year will mark the 28^th anniversary of the tragic events that took place in 1989 at l'École Polytechnique de Montréal.

The President's Town Hall on November 3 was a great event with excellent participation.

So excellent, in fact, that there wasn't nearly enough time for the president and his team to address all of the great questions that came in from email, social media, and live audience members.

For the last week or so, several University of Waterloo colleagues and I have been on a very productive trip throughout Asia. Our goal, similar to last year, is to steward our outstanding partnerships in the region and explore new opportunities as well.

What stands out for me this month is the richness of the University of Waterloo community. From alumni, to future alumni, to donors, to new partners… This place isn’t just an institution — it’s a family.

Building on the success of September’s Orientation events, we celebrated both Convocation and Reunion Weekend this month, and had a terrific turnout for both.

Feridun Hamdullahpur, president and vice-chancellor of the University of Waterloo, released the following message to all students, faculty, and staff on October 28, 2015.

I am pleased to present the University of Waterloo’s 2015-16 State of the University Report, Defining Innovation, available both in print and in an enriched digital format.

September’s always special, but this one really stands out.

First of all: a big welcome to campus to our new and returning students and faculty! It was great seeing so many of you — especially you first-year students and new faculty — out at our Orientation Week events.
