Explore Religion, Culture, and Spirituality
Our Religion, Culture, and Spirituality (RCS) program at the University of Waterloo offers a flexible and interdisciplinary approach to exploring how belief systems shape individuals, communities, and cultures across time and place. Rooted in a commitment to critical thinking and quality undergraduate teaching, RCS courses encourage students to ask important questions and see the big picture.
Religion, Culture, and Spirituality (RCS) is a unique, interdisciplinary field of study that places religious belief and practice in relation to cultural, social, political, historical, economic, philosophical, and ethical norms. An understanding of the complex relationship between religion, culture, and spirituality prepares us to engage meaningfully in an increasingly diverse world. It also provides a deeper understanding of why certain cultural traditions are publicly celebrated, and others are kept private.
RCS joined the School of Social, Political and Historical Research (SSPHR) in July 2026. Our programming receives direction from the SSPHR leadership team and administrative services and advising are managed by the SSPHR staff.

Drawing from multiple perspectives, we aim to provide students with a broad range of ideas, knowledge and experiences.
