About the Master of Social Work
The School of Social Work at Renison University College is pleased to offer Canada’s first health-focused online Master of Social Work (MSW) program. The MSW Program is offered in collaboration with the Faculty of Applied Health Sciences at the University of Waterloo.
Who can take a Master of Social Work?
We welcome applications from Canadian Citizens, Permanent Residents and international students with valid International Student Visas. All successful applicants must live in Canada for the duration of the program, since Field Education placements must be completed in Canada.
In order to be considered for admission, applicants must meet ALL requirements which include completion of a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree from an accredited Social Work program (or equivalent). Minimum 75% Grade Point Average (GPA) in the final two years of study and Statistics and Research methods pre-requisite university-level courses. Field placements and experiential learning
The Master of Social Work (MSW) field education program provides students with opportunities for:
- 462 hours (at a minimum of two consecutive 7-hour days per week) in an approved practicum in their own community or region in Canada only (normally other than the student's place of employment), subject to the availability of suitable placement agencies/organizations and field instructors.
- supervision from an agency-based field instructor qualified at the MSW level.
- regular online Integration Seminars facilitated by the MSW Team Lead, or designate.
- flexibility in the organization of practicum hours, depending upon the agreement of the agency/organization.
Our Master of Social Work program is accredited by the Canadian Association for Social Work Education.
