Who we are
The Sexual Violence Prevention and Response Office (SVPRO) supports all members of the University of Waterloo campus community who have experienced, or been impacted, by sexual violence. This includes all students, staff, faculty and visitors on the main campus, the satellite campuses, and at the affiliated and federated Waterloo Institutes and Colleges.
We are guided by anti-oppressive, intersectional, trauma-informed, evidence-based and collaborative approaches
This means that we:
- Provide supportive responses, deliver education, training and awareness initiatives, and offer consultations and recommendations that are centrered in an anti-oppressive and instersectional analysis
- Work with individuals from a trauma-informed framework and seek to embed principles of trauma-informed response into all policies and procedures
- Ground our work in current legislation, robust data and consultation with people with lived experience.
- Build strong collaborations with campus partners, Kitchener-Waterloo community organizations and with networks of workers addressing gender-based violence on campuses across Ontario and Canada
